HIV Aids continues to be a growing issue in Papua New Guinea and Nawae Construction joins in the fight against HIV Aids by recently becoming an approved policy holder with Business Against HIV Aids (BAHA).
In 'Tawala', which is the traditional language spoken on the mainland and inner islands of Milne Bay Province, 'Ita Bagibagi' translates into the central philosophy of Nawae Constructions HIV Aids workplace policy and program which is - 'Our Responsibility". The necklace that appears in the logo is the 'bagi' which is the traditional shell money of Milne Bay Province and which is instantly recognizable in every province of PNG as belonging to this region.
The committee that spearheads this program is Nawae Constructions HIV Aids Wok Komiti. 'Wok Komiti' is a tok-pisin translation of Work Committee and the committee is made up of volunteer employees from a broad cross-section of the company, whose aim is to raise awareness, undertake training and ensure the safety of Nawae Construction employees, their families and the communities which the company works in.
The policy was only officially launched in August 2008 and the company is now actively carrying out awareness, support programs, both within the company and also the surrounding communities. The 'Ita Bagibagi' program continues to gain momentum.....
